The Illusion of Movement // Joe Wills

“I was interested in the idea of blurring formal boundaries that the poem in the film and the concept of adaptation suggest, so I tried to adopt a cinematic form that had something in common with lyric poetry.  That’s also why some of the film is shot on digital cameras and some as 35mm film stills. I also liked the idea of stillness in film, and Laura Mulvey’s theory about how stillness in cinema is a kind of death.” 

JOE WILLS is a first year English student at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.  He is interested in using film to explore boundaries between individuals and their environments.
